The Empty Cup

Today in service we talked about how at times we can be so full we feel empty. I have been thinking a lot about the image of emptying out the clutter, the busyness of life so that I might allow God in more fully. Our faith is a process of constant emptying and filling up or dying and rebirth. At times we choose to empty ourselves and at other times life empties our cups without our permission. “While the process of emptying may be painful, it can also be growthful. Emptiness is a gift that open us further to the transforming power of God.”

breathprayer: (be especially aware of the breath cycle)

Breathe in: Filling up.....

Breathe out:...emptying out

Reflection:

Look into your empty cup

Live with the emptiness

Don’t try to fill it

Just sit with it

Open the door of your heart

Allow God to fill the empty space

Scripture: Philippians 2:1-11

Let the same mind be in you that is in Christ Jesus, who though, he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself...(Phil. 2:5-6)

Journal:

When I hear the word emptiness I feel....

My experience with emptiness has been...

Prayer:

Jesus knew what it was to empty himself. Holy God teach me the value of emptiness. Help me know what it is I need to empty.
